I think they should just let Conan be Conan, and work directly off Howard’s tales. I’d love to see a flick that built off of, say “Beyond the Black River” in clever ways.

Conan is such a raw primal pulp character that is difficult to generate a “compelling back story” for “the average movie goer” . As you said the comics have done a better job of it. The movie version whats to follow simple heroic tropes such as were created with Robin Hood, Tarzan, or the Zorro . Of course these don’t really follow the original concepts, but they are a bit easier to simplify by “Hollywood standards” . Enjoyed your post. :)

@Grace, that’s what libraries are also doing (among other things) to be more than “just a place with books” although I don’t see a time we are not “about books” in whatever form as well.
